Mind The Gap…

There’s a little thing, over there on the left, showing the archive of posts, and I was genuinely hoping to do at least one a month so there were no gaps, but it’s July 1st already, so in this respect I have failed myself. However, June was so crazy busy that I don’t feel quite so bad now I look back on it and see how far we’ve pushed things forward. So, in order of appearance, here’s what we’ve got coming up for you, with a few videos to keep you entertained in the meantime.

Firstly, we’re gearing up for our performance at SwanFest which will take place at The Swan, Cheltenham, on Saturday 3rd August, where we will be premiering some new material and also giving some existing work a rough seeing-to with a variety of new performance tech. This includes a couple of synths from Standuio, one of which had to be hand-built and probably doesn’t sound quite as its designer intended…

Then, before we’ve had chance to work out which flight case that oddly shaped cable ended up in, we’re off to Birmingham for our large-scale installation performance collaboration with Kate Spence, which will take place at The Wig in Birmingham on Friday 23rd August. The event is free but by invitation only, and we will be letting people know how they can get their invite very soon indeed. For this performance, I am working on a MIDI-enabled tea service among other things, and whilst it uses some of the similar tech to our Tempting Failure performance, the aesthetic will be entirely different and completely unique – don’t miss this one!

Then on Friday 13th September, we return to the 2 Pigs in Cheltenham for our own headline show. Again, we’ll be taking advantage of our close working relationship with the venue and setting up something that is halfway between a gig and a site-specific performance with some more new material and an especially extravagant light show, plus we’re hoping to confirm some guest musical collaborators.

And looking even further ahead to October 11th, we are going to be working on a new event, currently called Bleephaus: Assembly, also at the 2 Pigs. The idea behind this is to combine the best elements of a hackspace and an improvised electronic performance with a chance to build a synth and then play it as part of a big noisy ensemble at the end of the evening. Looking forward to doing the risk assessment for that one…
