I’ve been working on developing my own MIDI interfaces recently – I’m very keen to experiment with light as a control element, perhaps using the visuals to trigger audio elements, which then trigger more visuals (and so on…) or giving the audience torches or laser-pointers to take control of the performance parameters. Anyway, this week, I was confined to quarters for a few days and had a chance to dust off my Miditron board & get busy with the rudimentary circuit-making. Here’s a work in progress:

The board as it currently stands has 2 light sensors, a potentiometer and a motion sensor – still early days but so far things are looking promising for bespoke temp0rary controllers.

And finally, the remix I did on Goteki‘s ‘Reverse Engineer my Heart’ gets released on 4/5/12 as the lead track on their Disco Muerte Four : Death Is Not the End EP

The next project will be called ‘infinite growth in a closed system’ and is due for release in May 2012.

The final pieces of the album are being polished and finalised (with some much welcome assistance on mastering by Toby of 55th Flotilla infamy) and the whole thing should be available to download in just a few days.

I’ll be performing with a similar rig on 26th April 2012 in Gloucestershire College Atrium, and after that, I have no more gigs planned but am open to offers. There’s plans afoot to record more tracks over the Summer with Ben from This Is Radio Silence on guitars, provided we can navigate around the Olympics.

72 hours later, and the buzz has far from subsided. As I type, I’m rendering off the final pieces for an ‘album’ of sorts which will contain re-recordings of the 5 tracks performed last week, complete with video content. I’ll also be doing a short documentary showing how the rig I built for the gig works, since there seemed to be lotsof interest in the mechanics of the set too. The collection of files will be released very soon under the name ‘v#15130: the only constant is change’.

There’s also a new manifesto coming; I’ve decided to run temp0rary as a ‘Not For Profit Band’ – all music will be released freely and I will play gigs for expenses. I’m working through my thoughts on that one at the moment, but expect it to feature in the sleevenotes for v#15130.

We have traction and momentum. Thanks for everyone who has helped to get the wheels turning. Let’s see where this goes from here…

Firstly, I’ll be doing a gig in support of The Program Initiative at The 2 Pigs in Cheltenham on Friday 23rd March. I’m stoked about this – TPA put on an *incredible* show and played my second-favourite gig of 2011 (beaten only by Bjork!) merging post-rock with a full on A/V show respendent with a narrative and special effects that shamed 99% of Hollywood blockbusters.

Seriously – you have to come and see this. I’ll be upping my game significantly with a whole host of new material, visuals and gadgetry (I’m currently plotting a generative synth element that responds to insects under a microscope for one track…) and I’m currently finalising personnel for the date, so I’ll let you know more information as it breaks.

Over Christmas I also completed a temp0rary remix for the Goteki track ‘Reverse Engineer My Heart’ which is due out as part of their Disco Muerte release series and has beatured remixes from Apoptygma Berzerk and Ultraviolence. I’m also working on material for the next Xykogen album, ‘When Comes The Hour’. No rest for the wicked…

Despite this, I’m fairly confident we knocked it out of the park with the best temp0rary performance to date. It helped that Galen and Hailstrom played great sets before us as it really raised the bar for me. Totally got into the songs and stretched them into some interesting new shapes, adding live synths and noises and more vocals than before, narrowing the gap between previous temp0rary performances and old Chaos Engine shows. Couldn’t be happier. The day was rounded off with some great shows from Woosey, Brown Torpedo and Longstone too – I’m lucky to live here.

So yet again Ben and I pledged not to leave it so long until the next show or recording… only I think we mean it this time…
